The Health Benefits of Blueberries

Blueberries are rich in vitamins, antioxidants and fiber, and they contain polyphenols, compounds that protect against neurodegeneration, cancer, and cardiovascular disease (CVD).  Most studies have focused on the brain benefits of blueberries, but recently, the Nurses’ Health Study showed that a high intake of blueberries and strawberries is associated with a lower risk of myocardial infarction (heart attack).

Dr. Stefanie Christian emphasizes, “Our skin is our largest organ, and what we eat influences not only our overall health but the health and appearance of our skin. A diet rich in fruits and vegetables, with blueberries or blackberries every day, is an excellent start.”
