Hyperhidrosis is a medical condition in which a person sweats excessively and unpredictably without the normal heat triggers for sweating. Hyperhidrosis usually involves the hands, feet and armpits and often causes emotional, social, and occupational distress.
Patients with underarm Hyperhidrosis traditionally begin treatment with over-the-counter extra strength antiperspirants like Certain-Dri, containing aluminum chloride, and then prescription strength antiperspirants like Drysol, containing aluminum chloride hexahydrate. When these fail, treatment options include prescription medications such as Robinal (which can have unpleasant side effects like dry mouth, insomnia, and blurred vision); large dose injections of Botox into each armpit (which is both uncomfortable and expensive); Iontophoresis (a device that passes electricity through the skin using tap water), and surgical cervical sypathectomy as a last resort.
The Precision TX, offered at Timeless Laser & Skin Care, is a minimally invasive laser treatment that destroys the sweat glands in the armpits. This is performed in an office setting, takes 30 minutes, is done under local anesthesia, and patients can drive themselves home afterwards. Only one treatment is needed and results are usually permanent.
These are photos of underarms with starch and iodine testing showing where the sweat glands are. They demonstrate the marked reduction in sweat glands over 6 months following the Precision TX for excessive sweating.
